 What comes into your mind when you read the word cold email? For those who have never learned anything about it would think it is an email. Is it?

Well yes, it is an email

But

It is different.

Let us dive into what cold email is.

Cold email refers to emails sent to people you do not know for business purposes. The aim is to build a business relationship.

When sending cold emails, the main aim is to get conversations going or to get feedback. Sending to someone who is a stranger means there is a higher chance of the email being rejected or ignored.

Sending cold emails to business people will help you start a genuine conversation with people you have no prior connection with. B2B inbound marketing is important in cold emails for it majorly drives a lot of clients. I talk about the Concept of B2B inbound marketing in my last article.

Significance of Cold Email.

  1. It helps you target people you believe could benefit your product and service. By personalising your message to each recipient, there might be a higher chance of you getting feedback.
  2. It is cheap. Unlike the older method where you need to advertise your product and service thereby costing you much, what you need now is just crafting a good email and reaching your future prospective clients. This is cost effective hence it is a benefit.
  3. Easily Reached. You can reach thousands of clients by just sending cold emails.

While we know cold emails and spam emails are both sent to clients you have no prior connection with, it is important to note that there is a lot of difference between cold emails and spam emails.

Difference Between Cold Email And Spam Emails.

  1. cold emails are personalised and it is specific which means you can only send them to a particular person while spam emails are generic. It is generally sent to anyone.
  2. There is integrity in cold email. It is clear and honest. They state clearly who the sender is, where he or she is located and what kind of business one is doing while spam email lacks integrity. It can deceive and violate the law.
  3. Cold emails are usually short, clear and concise with an intended message while spam emails are long, with many links and promotional. It has no intended meaning.
  4. Cold emails are usually sent by Humans to specific clients while spam is mostly sent by artificial intelligence and can be sent to thousands of people at once.

The Dos And Donts In Cold Email.

Do’s

  1. Personalise your email. Avoid generic email. Research on the company
  2. Be Honest. People appreciate when you show integrity in what you are doing.
  3. Add importance. Make sure you are adding value to your client. That will easily make them engage with you.

The Don’ts

  1. Avoid links and promotions in your email. They will easily take it as a spam word.
  2. Avoid doing a quick follow-up. Give people time to reply to your email. Unnecessary follow-up will only increase higher chance of your client not engaging with you.

 In contrast to traditional outbound methods, inbound marketing meets the customer journey offering customised content at every stage of buying process.

The main advantage of B2B inbound marketing is its capability to produce organic and qualified leads as well as establish strong long-term relationships with prospects. Which means the cost per lead is lower and quality of leads higher, leading to effective sales opportunities towards sustainable growth trajectory in B2B companies

B2B inbound marketing is characterized by its core principles: Attract, Convert, Close, Delight. The first principle is in attracting the right visitors to your website. In order to achieve it, you need to optimize your website for search engines and create interesting content that appeals to your target audience. You can do this by conducting keyword research, on page optimization , and link building .

Once you have drawn the best crowd, then it becomes possible to nurture them with relevant material and reach out to them social media. The second principle, Convert , entails guiding prospects through the buyer’s journey and providing relevant content along each step of the marketing funnel, gaining their trust and solving problems that may arise for potential customers.

The third principle is Close that entails the closing of deals and converting proposals into clients.  It involves personalised communication, creating value and showing how your


product or service gives benefit to an individual.

Finally, the fourth principle Delight is about delighting your customers after purchase. This may include excellent customer service on the one hand, support and maintaining a good rapport with your customers.

In conclusion,B2B inbound marketing is not a panacea. It is a long term approach that takes patience , planning and perseverance.
